Brix and Hops – Craft Beer and BYOF!

I recently visited Brix and Hops, a taproom and wine bar located in the heart of Downtown Lodi on School Street.

Owners Jeff Daniel and Carrie Gooding, who came from the corporate world, set out to create a unique experience where one can enjoy craft beer and local wines together in a relaxed, comfortable environment that is conducive to conversations without raised voices.  With that vision in mind, they opened Brix and Hops in 2016.

Their menu features 30 rotating craft beer taps and fine wine from local wineries.

The eclectic and extensive beer list features a diverse selection of beer styles including IPA, Porter, and Stout to name a few.  Each item on the beer list is denoted with a number, the name of the beer and some information about the beer (including ABV and IBU).  When you’re ready to order, just tell your server the number of the beer you want, and whether you’d like a full glass of beer or a 5-ounce taster (around $4).  If you’re looking to try a few beers, the tasters are a great way to create a DIY flight of beer.

I opted for an Altamont Brew Works – L-Town Brown.  It’s an easy drinking brown ale with a roasty, chocolatey, and malty character that finishes clean.  It a great beer for fall or winter if your taste runs toward dark beer.  My companion enjoyed a Santa Cruz Ale Works Hefeweizen.  It’s an American Style unfiltered wheat ale with a low hop profile and a low-key fruitiness, nicely accented with a spicy bitterness.

If by chance, you didn’t get enough wine while out and about in Lodi Wine Country their wine list includes sparkling, white, rosé, red wines, and a dessert wine – all from local producers.

Hungry? While there are no food items on the menu, there is something better in my book.

You are welcome to bring in food from anywhere you like!  You can pick up a great sandwich at Fiori’s Butcher Shoppe and Deli or ask your server about local restaurants such as Tillies, Thai Kitchen, Fe-Nix and El Pazcifico, whom they’ve partnered with, to have food delivered to you while you’re enjoying that craft beer or a glass of Lodi wine!

Brix and Hops’ prime location makes it an ideal destination after a full day of wine tasting, hanging out after dinner and a movie, meeting up with friends, or perhaps strolling the charming streets of Downtown Lodi.

You’ll come for the great craft beer and wine served up in a convivial atmosphere. You’ll come back for the gracious service!
